American actress Emma Stone has revealed that her male co-stars took pay cuts to balance the pay discrepancies between men and women in Hollywood.
Emma Stone recently highlighted the ongoing gender inequality prevalent in Hollywood and that her male counterparts have taken reduced pay to balance the playing field, adding, “That’s something they do for me because they feel it’s what’s right and fair.”
Stone said the issue of unequal pay in Hollywood is still a challenge for women today, particularly among black and Latina women.
“At our best right now we’re making 80 cents to the dollar,” said Stone, adding that in Hollywood it's “a difficult system because it depends on the kinds of films you’re a part of, the size of your role, how much the movies make at the box office.”
“And so much of that changes your pay throughout your career, so I go more to the blanket issue that women, in general, are making four fifths at best,” she said.
Other famous figures have recently highlighted the gender pay disparity in Hollywood. Jennifer Lawrence, Viola Davis, Meryl Streep, Natalie Portman, Oprah and Nicole Kidman are among the famous actresses who have given personal accounts of the problem in Hollywood.
